A recent study conducted by British restaurants chain shed light on an issue faced by a significant portion of young adults while dining out called ‘Menu Anxiety.’

Menu anxiety, have you ever heard of it. If not ‘menu anxiety’, you may have heard of anxiety while dining or ordering outdoors at a restaurant. Many people struggle with making a decision on what they want to order and some people might even face anxiety because of it. A new study states that this indeed is real and is faced largely by the Gen-Z crowd. Many people answered to researchers saying that eating outside during the holiday season can get stressful.
According to the study, the Gen Z population of almost 86 per cent apparently experience this at restaurants. This type pf anxiety can be well defined by a feeling of stress, anxiety, unease and feeling of discomfort when a customer is asked to place the foods order. This confrontation with the restaurant employees is more difficult for some people than we thought of.
Menu Anxiety: What Is It And How Does It Manifest?
When people experience this kind of anxiety, they are unable to speak to the staff. They reported that they have to rely on others to place their order on their behalf. Here’s what could be triggering this fear:
This study was conducted both in UK and US and it revealed that three in 10 Americans also face the same anxiety while dining out. While, in UK, almost 40 percent of Gen Z’s said that they would prefer to see the menu before goin out. Moreover, the older generation does not seem to face such a problem, it is the young adults or the Gen-Z’s only between the age range of 18 to 24.
